interview: as december falls

Bethany Curtis, Ande Hunter, Danny Bligh, Timmy Francis, Lukas James.

This is As December Falls.

They're from Nottingham in the UK, established in 2014 as it says on their logo, they were , and their guitar player does this thing that's just...and the lead singer Bethany is just...her voice!

Anyway, I suggested an interview to them and they kindly replied...in kind? Their manager, Jason has been such a big help throughout the process.

Bethany is lead vocals (her voice is just...), Ande (he's cute) plays lead guitar and sings too, Timmy plays bass and Lukas plays the drums.

Here's the interview (my questions...my rhetoric professor would sigh...)

- On your Facebook account, it says that you changed the band name twice, so what was the influence for the current band name?
Not entirely sure how that happened, the band name has never changed since it was created! Ande came up with it when we were recording in the studio, we liked it because it represents everything falling into place for us as a band in December; the EP was written, the studio was booked and we finally had a full line up!

- How did you all meet?
Timmy and Ande have known each other the longest, playing gigs together whilst in other bands since they were 16.
Timmy and Danny met over Join My Band and auditioned Bethany to sing.
Lukas went to music college with Timmy.

- For how long have you been a band?
The band really finally came together in December 2013 but has only been active with shows and released music since summer 2014. They spent the first part of the band's life writing music and preparing the EP.

- What are the influences for your songs?
A lot of it depends on what we've been listening to at the time. We don't feel like we get influenced by bands because we like to make our own thing but we definitely get inspired by bands like Fall Out Boy, Modern Baseball, Lights and Macklemore. Anything that we feel is good music really. It just gets us in a writing mood!

Their EP, A Home Inside Your Head, and the titular song is WHOA.

- How old are you guys?
Bethany: 19
Ande: 23
Lukas: 22
Timmy: 22
Danny: 21

- Are you all involved in the songwriting process?
Timmy is the back bone to the band when it comes to writing, he writes most of the rhythmic skeletons. The rest of the band then write their own parts around Timmy's initial idea.

- What bands/musicians personally/generally inspire all of you?
Bethany: Marmozets, You Me At Six,
Ande: Guns N' Roses, Afi, Mago De Oz
Lukas: One Direction
Timmy: Fall Out Boy, Modern Baseball, Blink 182
Danny: We Are The In Crowd, Pierce The Veil

- When do you plan on releasing an album?
At the moment the plan is to focus on single releases with a potential EP out this year. Our next single 'Capture' will be released at the end of March.

- What book did each of you read last?
Ande: I'm in the middle of Slash's autobiography. Last book before that was House of Cards.
Bethany:
Danny: The Saga of Darren Shann
Timmy: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

- Are any of you in high school?
No, we're all at university or art college.

- How does your EP release make you feel about how far you've come?
We actually recorded it nearly a year ago so the songs feel really old for us. We feel that we've improved a lot and that shows a lot in the strength of the next single.

- You hit shuffle on your music player, what's the first song to play?
Comets - Charlie Simpson

- What bands would you love to open for?
Don Broco, We Are The In Crowd or Marmozets would be amazing.

- What bands would you love to collaborate with?
Macklemore or gym class heroes ! That would be so much fun.

- What do you think about the music scene in your area of England currently?

Well the music scene in Nottingham is literally amazing, we have so many great, talented artists from different genres breaking through. From hip-hop through to metal, this town is literally buzzing with great shows and acts.

Even though it wasn't a face-to-face interview, I still feel so honoured to have been able to ask them these questions (and you know, get answers).

As they said , their sound is influenced by Fall Out Boy (mine would be too if I had a sound, but check out my review of American Beauty/American Psycho to understand my love for those guys. FOB!), so if you're into Marmozets (check out my post on them to see if you are) or FOB, then you will probably love these guys.

Visit their website, to get access to merch and their EPs. Also, follow them on their various social media (mostly because their so nice. Links below.)
